KARAN KHOSLA

MUSIC / EDUCATION

A Journey of Musical Reinvention

Originally trained as a physicist, Karan Khosla’s path led him from impact investment and consulting to the world of music, where he found his true calling. With a deep-seated passion for jazz and storytelling through music, Karan pursued further education while maintaining a full-time job — ultimately emerging as a distinctive voice in South Asian jazz.

Contributing to India's Musical Landscape

As a first-call session guitarist, Karan has collaborated with both local and international artists, bringing his unique sound and technical prowess to a variety of projects. His compositions, often blending traditional jazz with contemporary influences, have resonated with audiences across India and beyond.

In early 2025, Karan released his EP Horizons, featuring three critically acclaimed singles:
- “Genesis” was selected as Song of the Week by All About Jazz and led to Karan being invited to contribute to the magazine as a writer representing South Asia.
- “Flux” was featured in Rolling Stone India’s Indie Unpacked series, praised for its energy and improvisational depth.
- “Serenity”, the first single from Horizons, drew inspiration from The Carpenters and Brad Mehldau and was featured in Hindustan Times and Firstpost.

Karan’s performances have graced prestigious festivals such as the Jazz India Circuit, Serendipity Arts Festival, and UNESCO International Jazz Day 2023.  He also co-wrote and played guitar on the critically acclaimed alt-rock album Constitution of Love by The Limited Experience.

Nurturing Talent at Goa Jazz Academy

Karan’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians is exemplified by his role as co-founder of the Goa Jazz Academy. Under his leadership, the Academy has become a beacon of higher music education in India and South Asia. In just four years, the Academy has grown to over 400 students, offering world-class programs and hosting more than 50 events, including a grand celebration of International Jazz Day with UNESCO.

Matt Warnock (formerly of JazzGuitar.be) has praised him as “a performer and teacher of the highest quality,” known for his ability to connect deeply with both students and audiences.
